Morton Bay Islands .. Brisbane’s best kept secrets.
Morton Bay Islands. On Brisbane’s doorstep, no further than 25 kilometres from the Brisbane CBD is a coastal wonderland of seaside villages, sun-blessed islands and a plethora of fascinating wildlife. This aquatic playground, one of Queensland’s best kept secrets, stretches over 125km of coastline from Bribie Island in the north to Redland Bay in the south and encompasses the Moreton Bay and Islands region.
The bay-side villages such as Redcliffe and Scarborough north of Brisbane, Sandgate, Shorncliffe, Wynnum and Manly on Brisbane’s Bayside and Cleveland, Victoria Point and Redland Bay in the south, all have beautiful beaches on, and glorious views of Morton Bay.
Discover this marine wonderland by taking one, or all of, North and South Moreton Bay Tourist Drives.
Take your time and experience the exciting cultural, dining and holiday activity from Manly Harbour Village to Settlement Cove Lagoon at Redcliffe. From the Bribie Island Beaches in the north to Stradbroke Island (One of the worlds largest sand islands) in the south.
Bribie Island is connected to the mainland by a bridge that crosses the Pumicestone Passage. The passage side of the island has gorgeous views of the Glasshouse Mountains and is a calm water haven for swimming, watersports and dolphin spotting.
A patrolled surf beach is located on the other side of the island at Woorim and looks out to Moreton Island in the distance. Moreton Island is only 25km off the coast of Brisbane but you’ll feel miles away from anything. The long stretches of unclaimed sand are perfect for beach camping and four wheel driving. On the island you can snorkel at the Wrecks, sand board and even hand-feed a dolphin at Tangalooma Island Resort.
To get to Moreton Island there is a daily ferry (except Tuesdays) from Port of Brisbane. Regular passenger and ferry access to North Stradbroke Island is available from Toondah Harbour at Cleveland.
North Stradbroke Island has sealed roads and most of its natural attractions are accessible by vehicle. The island has a series of freshwater lakes, beaches and walking trails to discover and is a popular spot for surfing, beach camping and fishing.
